Markers and tags

Group markers label a stretch of the Timeline; image marks label a single frame on a layer. Both help you find your place in a long scene.

This page has not been translated into your language yet, so you are reading the English original.

Group markers sit in their own band on the Timeline ruler and label a range of frames: a shot, a beat, a loop you keep coming back to. Image marks sit on a single layer row and flag one frame with a coloured dot, the way an animator pins a key pose or a breakdown on a lightbox.

Group markers

The tag bar runs along the ruler, above the frame numbers. Right-click an empty stretch of it and choose Add Group Marker to drop a new one: it starts twelve frames long, coloured green, and named Group. Its start is pushed to the first playable frame if you right-clicked before it.

Right-click an existing marker to rename it inline, open Group Color for ten preset swatches, choose Set In/Out to point the scene's in and out points at the marker's exact range, or Remove Group to delete it.

  • Drag the body of a marker to move the whole range.
  • Drag either edge to resize it.
  • Left-drag anywhere else in the ruler scrubs the playhead instead.
The Timeline tag bar with three coloured group markers and the rename field open on one of them.
While you are editing a symbol, the tag bar shows that symbol's own markers instead of the scene's.

Image marks

An image mark is a small coloured flag on one frame of one layer, meant for reading a pose without opening every drawing. Right-click a layer row at the frame you want and choose Add Image Mark, then pick one of eight presets: Red (key pose), Orange (breakdown), Yellow, Green (anchor), Cyan, Blue (inbetween), Magenta or White.

Right-click a frame that already carries a mark for Edit Image Mark, which lets you change its colour and its label, or Remove Image Mark to clear it.

Setting in and out from a marker

Set In/Out on a group marker's right-click menu is the fastest way to loop or preview one beat: it replaces whatever in and out points were set and snaps them to that marker's start and end, so Play immediately loops just that range.

Navigating between markers

The viewport's transport bar carries four dedicated jump buttons: Previous Tag Group and Next Tag Group step the playhead between group markers, Previous Image Mark and Next Image Mark step it between image marks on the selected layer. Each pair is disabled while the scene has none of that kind to jump to.
