Actions panel

Browse, search and manage every Action Bone in the project from one list.

This page has not been translated into your language yet, so you are reading the English original.

The Actions panel is the home for every Action Bone in the project (see Action Bone for what an action is and how to record one). Open it from Window ▸ Actions; it is on by default. The panel switches between two modes on its own: a browsable list most of the time, and an editing view the moment you enter an action.

The action list

Each row shows the action's name, followed on the same line in dim text by its driving bone's name and how many dial keys it has, as (bone, N keys). A row is highlighted gold when its bone is the one currently selected in the viewport, so you can see at a glance which actions belong to the bone you are working on.

The Actions panel showing several actions, one row highlighted gold for the currently selected driving bone.

Creating an action

Click Add Action with a bone selected in the viewport. It creates a new action driven by that bone, seeds it with a neutral pose at rest, and drops you straight into Action Mode to start posing. With no bone selected the button is dimmed and does nothing. Select a bone first.

Searching and filtering

Type into the Search field to filter the list to actions whose name contains what you typed. The bone filter combo narrows the list to actions driven by one particular bone. Its first entry, All bones, clears the filter. Both work together, and neither is saved between application launches.

Renaming, editing and deleting

Click Edit on a row to enter Action Mode for that action; see Action Bone for what happens once you are inside, and how Apply and Cancel differ. While editing, rename the action in the name field at the top of the panel. It commits when you press Enter or click elsewhere.

Delete removes an action immediately, with no confirmation. It is undoable, but there is nothing standing between a stray click and losing a recorded pose.

Reading the panel's state

Outside of Action Mode, the panel is purely a browser: nothing you do here changes the project except Add Action and Delete. Inside Action Mode, the panel instead shows the action's name, its driving bone and that bone's current angle, plus the Apply and Cancel buttons that end the editing session.

The same list is also available inline in the Properties panel, under a selected bone's Action Bone section, if you would rather work without switching panels.
