Layers, masking & clipping

Organize your scene with layers, then use masking and clipping to control exactly where art and effects show up.

Stacking & organization

The Layers panel controls stacking order and visibility. Drag layers to reorder them, and group related art so a complex character stays manageable.

Masking

Add a mask to a layer to hide or reveal parts of it without erasing anything — paint the mask to control what shows through, and edit it non-destructively any time.

Clipping alpha & child layers

Make a layer a child of the one beneath it and clip to its alpha, and its paint or effect is confined to that shape — perfect for shading strictly inside a character's silhouette.

Masks and clipping are non-destructive — the underlying art is never touched, so you can rework a mask long after you paint it.
